As for the amount of data they use, Pinngle  consumes 30%-40% less data compared to other messaging apps. Pinnglee uses 8 Kb for 1 second during a voice call. Data usage of 1 message depends on the message length and network header. It makes up 120 B plus the message size.

Skype

Skype is a communication service that provides instant messaging, voice and video calls over the internet for free. The video chat service first appeared on the market in 2003 and is still one of the most popular video conferencing platforms. Viber

Viber, similar to Pinngle and Skype is a cross-platform voice over IP and instant messaging application offering free voice and video calls. It was founded in 2010 and is now operated by Japanese multinational company Rakuten. If you want to use Viber while you are connected to your cellular data, it will consume nearly 240 KB per minute up and down, and 14 MB per hour up and down. As for text messages, they are under 1Kb (125 B) per 500 characters.

Whatsapp

WhatsApp is acquired by Facebook. This messenger is considered the largest cross-platform mobile messaging app. If you’re using WhatsApp’s general data usage mode for voice calls, the app will consume 310 KB. On its low data usage mode, the app will take 204 KB.  Similar to the rest of the messaging apps, If you haven’t exceeded your data limit or you’re connected to a free Wi-Fi network, you shouldn’t be charged extra for messaging or calling.

Line

The LINE messaging app was first launched in Japan in 2011. It was developed as a disaster response tool to provide better and affordable communication. Since then, the app has grown exponentially all around the world offering free voice and video calls. As for the data usage, LINE spends 374 KB of data per minute on a voice call.

Facebook Messenger

Facebook Messenger, which is widely known as just Messenger, is among the top chat apps these days. The Messenger has over 1.3 billion users and is expected to grow to 2.4 billion users by 2021. The messenger allows you to make free voice and video calls, as well as create group chats and conference calls. Regarding its data usage, If you’re using Facebook Messenger for making voice calls, the messenger will consume 333 KB per minute, on average from your data plan.
